Mentor Training Center

Mentor Training Center LogoMentors change lives; there is no doubt about it. If you are thinking of becoming a mentor, United Way of Morris County's Mentor Training program is an easy way to learn all about the mentoring process – the rewards, the challenges, and the profound impact mentoring has on BOTH the mentor and the "mentee".

Our Mentor Training program is designed to teach you what mentoring is all about.  In this unique program, you will to get to know yourself better by identifying your strengths, your values, and your communication style so that you are well prepared to enter into your new role as someone's mentor.

About our Mentor Training Program

Our program offers training that is free-of-charge and open to anyone interested in becoming a mentor.  The training was created and is managed by United Way of Morris County professionals.  Participants learn the fundamentals of mentoring individuals, regardless of whether they are children, teens, or adults. These skills can be used for youth mentoring, professional mentoring, financial mentoring, care partner mentoring, and more.

The course provides foundational information that applies to any type of mentoring, for example:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a successful mentor.
  • How to help the mentored person set and achieve goals.
  • The effect of values and diversity in mentoring relationships.
  • Communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • How to select the mentoring opportunity that's right for you.

Who Benefits from Mentoring?

Everyone!  Mentoring allows both parties involved to grow as individuals, develop new skills, learn about themselves, and make a positive and lasting contribution to the community. Give it a try.  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Make the investment in yourself.
