High School Students in Action

High School Students in Action is making a difference in Morris County!

High School Students in Action (SiA) is United Way of Morris County's student-led community change organization for high school students across Morris County. Participating students build leadership skills while making a difference in their own lives and communities. Students GIVE, ADVOCATE, and VOLUNTEER on special projects related to issues in EDUCATION, INCOME, and HEALTH.

Members meet a minimum of twice a month: one meeting is devoted to working on a community service project; one meeting is for learning about local issues related to EDUCATION, INCOME, and HEALTH and planning fundraising projects to support Students in Action's chosen cause for the year.

High School Students in Action Show That Financial Stability and Sustainability Go Hand-in-Hand!

To help United Way accomplish its mission of advancing the common good, High School Students in Action are helping tackle issues related to financial stability for the 2009 – 2010 school year.  United Way and Students in Action believe all families should be able to earn enough income to allow for stable housing, nutritious food, access to health care, and to plan for retirement.  One way United Way accomplishes this is by encouraging our Housing Alliance partners to install energy efficient heating systems and appliances when building affordable housing units in our communities.  These practices ultimately save families money – and they help conserve natural resources, too!  High School Students in Action is raising awareness to educate the community about the real cost savings for families generated by green living practices.

This year, High School Students in Action's Students Helping Students Scholarship will be awarded to outstanding high school seniors and/or college students based on their ability to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable and green living practices, a strong academic record, extracurricular activities, and financial need.
