United Way Honored for Work Improving Communities in Morris County

November 3, 2006 – Morristown, NJ – United Way of Morris County received a Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) New Jersey Neighborhood Achievement Award at a celebratory luncheon held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on November 2, 2006.  The 2006 Exemplary Private Partner Award recognized United Way of Morris County's leadership in building healthy and vibrant communities in Morris County.

The annual LISC Awards celebrate community leaders for innovative programs and partnerships which make neighborhoods safe and attractive places to live and do business.  LISC noted United Way's strategic approach of creating public-private partnerships to solve community issues, specifically citing The Housing Alliance, a consortium of 23 public, private, and non-profit agencies convened by United Way to increase the supply of affordable housing in Morris County through advocacy work, publicity efforts, and collaboration.

In presenting the award, Dr. Elizabeth Hall, Executive Director of Homeless Solutions said, "United Way helped put the pieces together in word and in deed.  United Way said, Let's get together and find solutions and make it happen.  And they did.  They did it with the Housing Alliance."

John Franklin, CEO of United Way of Morris County accepted the award.  "The efforts of the people and organizations represented here today demonstrate that it is, in fact, possible to change a life, to improve on conditions, to create opportunities for people to have a home.  United Way is proud to stand up in the community with others to say that we struggle together for this good and noble cause," he said.
