"Game of Life" in Roxbury Sparks Social Awareness Among Teens
Morris County Child Abuse Prevention Collaboration brings agencies offering real life advice to students at Eisenhower Middle School
February 7, 2007 – Succasunna, NJ – In cooperation with United Way of Morris County, the Morris County Child Abuse Prevention Collaboration is hosting the "Game of Life" on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Eisenhower Middle School, 47 Eyeland Avenue, Succasunna, N.J. from 8:15am-2:30pm. This unique program is designed to spark awareness among teenagers about the various social issues that exist, as well as the agencies and programs in their local community that are in place to help address those problems.
During the "Game of Life," middle school students are given a description of a problem related to a variety of issues, including domestic violence, substance abuse, pregnancy, eating disorders, gambling, and depression. Each student has one class period to solve or address the problem by visiting and learning from the various service providers represented at the school that day. The Game of Life gives teenagers the opportunity to increase their problem solving skills and receive invaluable information about the issue, their town, community, and County resources.
Participating service providers in the upcoming "Game of Life" event include: United Way of Morris County and 2-1-1 First Call for Help; Child and Family Resources; Council on Compulsive Gambling; Day Top, Division of Youth and Family Services; Family Service of Morris County; Hope House; JBWS; Morris County NJSPCA; Morris County Sexual Assault Center; Morristown Memorial Hospital Teen Health FX program; Roxbury Municipal Alliance; Roxbury Public Health Department; St. Clare's Girls Rule program; and personnel from the Middle School.
