Local Teens Raise over $1,500 for United Way Youth Scholarship

April 26, 2005 – Morristown, NJ Ten local high school students involved with United Way of Morris County raised over $1,500 for a United Way Youth Scholarship at "Family Game Night" on Monday, April 25, 2005 at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown.  The event featured speed Jeopardy, dinner, and prizes.

"Family Game Night" was the brainchild of local high school students that volunteer their time with United Way's Youth Leadership and Service Council.  The Youth Leadership and Service Council is a student-led volunteer group at United Way that gives young people the opportunity to learn about social issues and become involved in community service.  Council members have spent the last year volunteering their time with United Way and its partners agencies.

Youth Council members were responsible for planning the fundraiser in its entirety, from selling tickets to securing in-kind donations from local businesses.  Yvette Carpenter, former coordinator for the Youth Council at United Way said, "I have had the pleasure of working with this incredible group of students for almost a year now.  They are extremely responsible and have a sincere desire to help the community in which they live."

"Family Game Night" and the Youth Leadership and Service Council were generously supported by the following companies and organizations:  PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP; UPS; Cascata the Spa; Sage; Glam Jam; Live with Regis & Kell'y; RJ Mars; Applebees; Party City; King's; Anthony's Pizza; Viva the Chef; Timeline Promotions; 3M; and the F.M. Kirby Foundation.
