Legacy Luncheon Reaches Million Dollar Goal

Real Estate Companies Raise Funds to Help Local Non-Profit Agencies

March 23, 2007 – Morristown, NJ – At its annual Legacy Luncheon on March 23rd United Way of Morris County's Commercial Real Estate Network raised over $159,000 to fund critical capital improvements at health and human services agencies in Morris County, pushing the Network's eight year fundraising total to just over $1,000,000.  The Network has funded over 65 much-needed capital improvements at United Way member agencies.

The event at the Hilton Parsippany, Parsippany, NJ, attracted 350 commercial real estate and related industry representatives.

Major sponsors included Jones Lang LaSalle, Turner Construction, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and Newmark Knight Frank.

Keynote Speaker for the event was Greg Schiano, Head Football Coach for Rutgers University's Scarlet Knights.  His remarks included stories of tough losses, hard work, focused goals, and successful turnarounds.  Schiano became Rutgers' coach in 2000, and by 2006, had built the program into one of the nation's best.

Dave Szott, Vice President, Jones Lang LaSalle, and Chaplain for the New York Jets, and a former NFL player, was the event moderator.

The United Way Commercial Real Estate Impact Award, which recognizes the property development project or transaction that has had the most positive impact in Morris County in 2006, was given to the New Jersey Sports & Exhibition Authority for the purchase of a 20-acre site in Florham Park from a partnership between The Gale Company and The Rockefeller Group.  The New York Jets, represented by Cohn Real Estate, will be leasing the property for their new training facilities.

Also included at the luncheon were honorary guests from major Morris County corporations, including Jamie Ciarletta, Novartis, Craig McLaughlin, Quest Diagnostics, and Jim Stabenow, Novartis.
