Best Buy Spreads Holiday Cheer to Local Hurricane Katrina Evacuees
December 20, 2005 – East Hanover, NJ – When Mike Todd and Rich Walter learned that 30 children relocated to Morris County after Hurricane Katrina, they knew they wanted to help out. Todd, a store manager at Best Buy in Rockaway, NJ, and Walter, store manager at Best Buy in East Hanover, NJ, reached out to United Way of Morris County to see what they could do. Todd said, "We wanted to do whatever we could to help these kids have a great holiday." This morning, Todd and his employees of Best Buy in Rockaway presented 30 $50 Best Buy gift cards – one for each child evacuee enrolled in the Morris County school district – to United Way of Morris County.
Dr. Thomas Kane, Morris County superintendent of schools and United Way of Morris County board member, graciously accepted the gift cards on behalf of his students. Kane will make sure that each hurricane victim enrolled in the Morris County school district receives the gift from Best Buy in time for the holidays.
