at&t Groupat&t Colleagues Spend September 11th Volunteering

September 11, 2007 – Morristown, NJ – On Tuesday, September 11th, 2007, eight intrepid volunteers from at&t in Morristown, NJ showed just how much can be accomplished with rolled up sleeves, focus, enthusiasm, and gallons of paint.  The "intrepid eight" spent a United Way Day of Caring sprucing up the grounds and repainting rooms at the Eric Johnson House in Morristown.  The Eric Johnson House is an agency that assists individuals with HIV or AIDS in securing and maintaining permanent housing.

The team, ably led by Ed Thornton, Client Business Manager with at&t Business Services, felt that volunteering on September 11th gave their work an added sense of purpose.  "I can't imagine a better day to give back to the community, to pull together to help others," Thornton said.  "The team here today is an incredibly enthusiastic group from the sales office, and each one is finding the Day of Caring to be a great experience."

Thornton, who is chairing this year's United Way Campaign for the Towle Branch of at&t Business Services, recruited his volunteer team with to work locally, noting that "there's an overwhelming need for hands on help right here in Morristown.  We were happy to spend the day doing yard work, painting & staining at the Eric Johnson House."

"Days of Caring" is an exciting opportunity for corporations in Morris County to get acquainted and connected with local health and human services agencies.

Participating in a Day of Caring project not only gives corporations a hands-on opportunity to make a difference in their community, but also raises awareness of critical issues and promotes on-going engagement between Morris County corporations and non-profit agencies. For many agencies, volunteers are the only means to accomplishing much-needed repairs. For the health of the community as a whole, volunteers are an invaluable resource.
