United Way Highlights Youth-Focused Work, Celebrates Volunteers
Dr. Thomas Kane, Morris County superintendent of schools, among guest speakers at organization’s annual meeting
September 7, 2006 – Florham Park, NJ – United Way of Morris County's Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, September 28, 2006 will focus on "Building Tomorrow's Leaders Today" by highlighting programs and groups that serve Morris County's children and youth.
Featured speakers include Dr. Thomas Kane, Morris County superintendent of schools and United Way board member, who will speak about the importance of investing in children, and touch on local United Way programs in the community. James Windon, owner of WManagement and former participant of a United Way-funded program at Collinsville Child Care Center, will talk about his own experience with youth-focused programs. Windon, who grew up in Morristown, has paved a path of success in the entertainment industry; he has spearheaded a Latino division for "Flavor Unit Entertainment", Queen Latifah's management, TV, and film production company, and most recently, he started his own talent management company, WManagement. Windon attributes a lot of his accomplishments to the Teen/Tot Learning Program at Collinsville Child Care Center.
Honorees at the luncheon, who will be recognized for their volunteer service with United Way and the community, include: Theresa Davis, Morris County Division on Aging, Disabilities, and Veterans; Wendy Lazarus, Pfizer Inc; Ruth Lewin, Sir Speedy of East Hanover; R. David Pettit, Center for Context; Beth Searing, Pfizer Inc; Kate Whitehead, a freshman at Bucknell University; and members of the Immigrant Resources Network.
The Kellogg Award, United Way of Morris County's highest honor, will be presented to representatives of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, to commemorate their consistent and vital support of United Way.
The event, which is open to the public, will be held at Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center, 175 Park Avenue, Florham Park, NJ. A welcome reception in the hotel courtyard begins at 11:30am; the program begins at 12:00pm. Tickets are $45.
