United Way Celebrates Community Support at Annual Luncheon

September 15, 2005 – Florham Park, NJ – United Way of Morris County honored individuals and organizations for their compassion and commitment to helping United Way create positive change in the communities of Morris County.  The 2005 Partnership Awards were given at United Way's Annual Meeting and Campaign Kick-off Luncheon, held Thursday, September 15th at Hamilton Park in Florham Park.

Individuals receiving Partnership Awards included John Bonanni, County Administrator for County of Morris, Lauretta Muldoon, UPS, Elaine Thornberry, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and Members of The Housing Alliance, a coalition of organizations focused on the issues of housing that is affordable for all Morris County residents.

The event culminated with the presentation of United Way of Morris County's highest honor, The Kellogg Award, named for Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kellogg who founded United Way of Morris County, known originally as the Community Chest, in 1922.

This year's recipient of the award was Deloitte & Touche, a long-standing partner in United Way's mission of improving lives.  On a national basis, Deloitte & Touche contributes well over $14 million to United Ways throughout the country.

In presenting The Kellogg Award, Peter Watts, KKJ Consulting, LLC, and a member of the United Way Board of Directors, said, "The local United Way team at Deloitte is one of our best.  Their dedication generates support for United Way, which translates into our support throughout the County.  The impressive commitment by Deloitte employees, both financial and in terms of volunteerism, does, in fact, change lives for the better."

In accepting the award for Deloitte & Touche, Joe Delaney, long-time campaign coordinator for United Way at the company, noted: "I feel I am in a room full of heroes today.  We know there will always be people in need, but we also know there will always be people like you to help.  Even though the fall is the traditional time for United Way corporate campaigns, there is a culture at Deloitte & Touche that feels that United Way is a cause for all seasons."

Patricia Sly, Atlantic Health System, who is retiring as Chair of the Board of Directors of United Way was also recognized for her outstanding contributions by John Franklin, CEO, United Way of Morris County.

Kira Mendez, Kairos Consulting LLC, and President of United Way of Morris County's Board of Directors, delivered an update of United Way's Hurricane Katrina Response efforts, both nationally and on a County level.

Pam Fischer, AAA New Jersey Automobile, spoke about the future of United Way and changes that are expected in Morris County.  Kevin Rigby, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, addressed rising issues for United Way and its partners in the coming years, citing housing, transportation, and support for the County's 42,000 unpaid family caregivers as just a few areas of focus.

Preschoolers from El Primer Paso, Dover, closed the program, singing songs in English and Spanish.
