United Way of Morris County Youth Council and Millea Bros., Ltd team up to raise money for NewBridge 70001 JOBS PLUS Program
United Way of Morris County’s Youth Leadership and Service Council and Millea Bros., Ltd recently teamed up to support the NewBridge 70001 JOBS PLUS program. Millea Bros. Ltd., an auction and appraisal business based in Madison, N.J., hosted three auctions at the Morristown Armory in Morristown: the Spring ABC Auction; Modernism, Deco & Design Auction; and Spring Estates Auction.
United Way of Morris County’s Youth Leadership and Service Council was on hand to work at the snack bar to raise awareness and money for NewBridge Services’ 70001 JOBS PLUS program. 70001 offers education, job training, and job placement assistance to young adults aged 16-21. The program empowers and inspires its associates to earn their GEDs and to focus on their long-term career goals. All the money raised from tips and donations collected at the snack bar went to help the Youth Leadership and Service Council raise money to support 70001.
Youth Leadership and Service Council is comprised of high school students who work year-round on hands-on volunteer projects and fundraisers to give back to the community. The young volunteers earned $334 from snack bar tips. In addition, the Millea brothers offered a “matching grant” where they agreed to match, dollar-for-dollar, any tips earned during the auctions. Additionally, one generous individual donor contributed $300 to the cause, bringing the total funds raised to $968.
“When my brother and I created our business, we decided that we would settle for nothing less than our best,” said Mark Millea, co-owner of Millea Bros. Ltd. “Offering your best is not always an option for the unfortunate whose burdens force them to make nothing but compromises. That is why we have chosen to give back by donating to United Way’s Youth Council.”
John Franklin, CEO of United Way of Morris County, said of their contributions, “This is the third year that the Millea Bros. auction has supported the Youth Council and their efforts to raise funds. Their choice has triple impact: Youth Council raises money for a great program in 70001; Youth Council members learn firsthand how they can make a difference in the community; and both the Millea Bros. and Youth Council have raised the awareness of the public about the 70001 program.”
The auction donations are part of a larger fundraising effort by the Youth Council to raise money for 70001. The Youth Council is also hosting an annual fundraiser on May 22 to raise money to support this program. This year’s fundraiser -The Wiimbledon Fundraising Challenge! - is a Wii tennis tournament where contestants will compete in virtual tennis games. All participants are required to raise a minimum of twenty dollars to reserve a place in the tournament. The tournament is open to people of any age who want to play Wii tennis and raise money for the 70001 program.
