United Way of Morris County Celebrates National Volunteer Week
MORRISTOWN, N.J. – April 27 through May 3 marks the 34th Annual National Volunteer Week, when organizations across the country celebrate the contributions of individuals who dedicate their time and energy to making our nation a better place to work and live. United Way of Morris County is saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women whose hard work is making a difference throughout Morris County.
National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish an annual weeklong celebration of our nation’s volunteer efforts. This year’s theme is “Volunteer to Change the World.” But big changes can start in our backyard! While many choose to donate their time to a specific organization, volunteering can be as simple as mowing a neighbor’s lawn, grocery shopping for a handicapped loved one, or giving a friend a ride to work.
“This week is about recognizing the individuals who have been engaged in our community,” said John Franklin, chief executive officer at United Way of Morris County. “Without their hard work and dedication, our organization would not thrive.”
United Way of Morris County focuses on fostering community involvement, convening collaborative efforts to resolve community problems, and making the services most needed remain available to Morris County residents. It is through these initiatives, and with the help of loyal volunteers, that United Way of Morris County can serve as a community problem solver.
