Legacy Luncheon Funds Go to Work!
Commercial Real Estate Network's Efforts Help Non-Profits
June 29, 2007 – Morris County, NJ – The 2007 Legacy Luncheon, an annual fundraising event hosted by United Way's Commercial Real Estate Network, raised $159,000 in April, all of it earmarked for critical capital projects at local non-profits. Project grants were distributed on June 25, 2007, with projects at nine different United Way member agencies in Morris County fully funded.
DAWN, Inc., Denville, will have new automatic doors to allow for"able access," while Children on the Green, Morristown, will have new flooring and furniture in some of their classrooms.
NewBridge Services, Inc, Pompton Plains, will be able to expand their unique therapeutic garden program by adding a greenhouse, and Hope House, Dover, will be able to replace old fire doors.
Additionally, Community Hope, Parsippany, will have new air conditioning units in three group homes they run for adolescents and adults recovering from debilitating mental illnesses and the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern New Jersey, Morristown, will be renovating six bathrooms to comply with the ADA.
Parsippany Child Care in Parsippany will have new rugs and flooring in classrooms, and Mt Olive Child Care, Mt Olive, will be enhancing their learning environment program, while Jefferson Child Care and Education Center, Lake Hopatcong, will have a newly renovated bathroom, complying with ADA regulations.
In receiving the grant, Christine Murray, Jefferson Child Care, said, "We are so grateful that United Way has helped to make our dream a reality; infant/toddler care is such a need in our community – we already have a waiting list for this new program! United Way and the Commercial Real Estate Network are not just giving to us, but giving to our community and it is so appreciated."
Faith Scott, director of VNA, outlined the wide ranging impact their grant will have. "VNA is embarking on a bigger project than we have ever encountered in our 109 year-old history. United Way's support has been a great jumpstart and has really pushed the boulder over the edge for us. United Way and the Legacy Luncheon funding was the first dollar in for our new building project."
Scott continued,"This is not just about the"potty proposal" as we like to call it, but about the spirit, the vision of the project. We are so excited about United Way's support, which has opened so many doors and is helping us embark on this really big avenue."
The 2008 Legacy Luncheon will be held on Friday, April 25th at the Hilton Parsippany. For more information, contact Theresa Lepore, 973.993.1160, x 105.
