Gladstone, N.J. – Ninety-six ambitious golf enthusiasts raised much-needed funds at United Way of Morris County’s ninth annual Help for Children Classic at Hamilton Farm Golf Club on Monday, May 19, 2008.

All proceeds raised through the Golf Classic will go to assist United Way supported programs that help Morris County children cope with a personal or family crisis, including: shelter services for children living on the streets, counseling to prevent dating violence, and compassionate medical exams and counseling for victims of physical or sexual abuse.  The event brought in nearly $60,000 for this important cause.

David Albright, Chair of the event’s planning committee, challenged golfers to raise the fundraising bar for next year and to stay involved in this important work beyond their involvement in this event.

“It is astonishing to me that in a part of the world that is so affluent, so many children face pain, confusion, and uncertainty each day,” commented Albright.  “We can all play an important part in supporting organizations such as United Way of Morris County to keep our community’s kids safe and healthy.”

Event sponsor Intel brought 40 golfers to the event to play this magnificent course in support of this cause.  Additional sponsors included: Asurion, Hollister Construction, LG, Newmark Knight Frank, Pfizer, SJP Properties, and TD Commerce Bank.  All printing expenses in support of this event were donated by The Ace Group.

“Children are always at the forefront of the work we do at United Way,“ noted John Franklin, CEO of United Way of Morris County at the event dinner.  “Homelessness, physical or sexual abuse, neglect, date rape – each of these terrible conditions becomes especially devastating when the victim is a child.  United Way programs are helping them, and all the sponsors and players at this event are helping them, too.”

This year's event gave participants the opportunity to play the challenging Hamilton Farm Golf Club course, designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry.

The annual event is open to the public.  To get involved in next year’s United Way Help for Children Classic, contact Theresa Lepore at United Way of Morris County, by email or phone 973.993.1160, x105.
