Group replaces critical school supplies lost by hundreds of children in summer hurricanes
November 26, 2007 – Cedar Knolls, NJ – Hurricane force winds pounded Jamaica this summer, damaging homes and disrupting the start of school for thousands of children. In response, Everton Scott, JCP&L Area Manager in Morristown and United Way volunteer, contacted United Way of Morris County, asking us to spearhead a collection of vital school supplies...in time for the beginning of school on the island.
We turned to valued corporate partner, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, to help. Rhonda Crichlow, Executive Director of Philanthropy and Community Development at Novartis, led a collection drive and generous Novartis employees donated several hundred backpacks, full of supplies.
The Rev. Alfred Johnson, Linval James, and other representatives from the Jamaican Organization of NJ accepted the supplies at the JCP&L facility in Boonton, NJ. The entire shipment was sent off to children in need in Jamaica as the school year got underway.
