United Way Golfers Play to Help Children in Crisis
July 11, 2006 – Bedminster, NJ – Over 120 ambitious golf enthusiasts raised much-needed funds to help children in crisis at United Way of Morris County's Seventh Annual Golf Invitational at Trump National Golf Club on Monday, July 10, 2006.
This year's event, which was fully subscribed, gave participants the opportunity to play the relatively new Trump course, which is currently ranked 47th in the nation.
The event raised funds for United Way supported programs that help Morris County children cope with a personal or family crisis, including shelter services for children living on the streets, counseling to prevent dating violence, and compassionate medical exams and counseling for victims of physical or sexual abuse.
Sponsors supporting the Children in Crisis golf event included: Asurion; PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC; Sharp Electronics; Schindler Elevator Corporation; The Ace Group; and Turner Construction.
"Children are always at the forefront of the work we do at United Way", noted John Franklin, CEO of United Way of Morris County at the event dinner. "Homelessness, physical or sexual abuse, neglect, date rape. Each of these terrible conditions becomes especially devastating when the victim is a child. This may be hard for most people who live here to believe, but on a freezing cold night in January of last year, 140 children were counted living on the streets…not even in shelters, but on the streets. United Way programs are helping them, and all the sponsors and players at this event are helping them, too."
Dave Albright, Co-Chairman for the event, said, "The United Way golf outing is always a great day, but it is made even better knowing we are playing on behalf of children who need help."
