Local Teens Raise over $2,000 for United Way

May 24, 2006 – Morristown, NJ Local high school students involved with United Way of Morris County raised over $2,000 for United Way at "Fun at the Boardwalk Family Game Night" on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown.  Almost 50 community members attended the event, which featured a trivia challenge, a variety of family-centered games, dinner, and prizes.

The fundraiser was the brainchild of local high school students who volunteer their time with United Way's Youth Leadership and Service Council.  The Youth Leadership and Service Council, sponsored in part by the F.M. Kirby Foundation and MetLife Foundation, is a student-led volunteer group of United Way that gives young people the opportunity to learn about social issues and become involved in community service.

Youth Council members were responsible for planning the fundraiser in its entirety, from selling tickets to securing in-kind donations.  Kristen Warms, former coordinator for the Youth Council at United Way said, "The Youth Council members bring so much energy and enthusiasm to everything they do.  I am so impressed by their maturity, talents, and their ability to put together amazing projects and an amazing event."

A highlight of the event was a presentation by Youth Council members about their experience over the past year.  About her involvement, Meghan Thompson, a senior at Morristown High School said, "It's been great to meet kids from all over the County and really work hard to put together these service projects, and events like this one."

"Fun at the Board Walk Family Game Night" was generously supported by:  3M; PricewaterhouseCoopers; BJ's Wholesale Club; The Brenner Family; Cadbury Adams; Commerce Bank; The Community Theatre; The Famished Frog; Frank's Pizzeria & Ristorante; Glam Jam; Scotti’s Record Shops; Sandrian Camera Shops; Square Luggage; Studio Yoga; and Top Notch.
