Senior Services Spotlighted at NewBridge Open House
May 15, 2007
For many senior citizens, simple tasks like fixing a door or replacing old glasses can prove a major undertaking. More complex issues such as legal issues or completing insurance paperwork can seem an impossible feat. But services to help seniors with these types of issues do exist in Morris and Passaic counties; United Way member agency NewBridge Services recently held an open house to raise awareness about the many senior services that are available.
Professionals who work on behalf of seniors in Morris and Passaic counties learned more about NewBridge's wide range of senior services. They also got the chance to speak with the staff of NewBridge SAIL (Senior Assistance for Independent Living), a free program for people over the age of 60 that provides links to services to help them maintain their independence. SAIL is funded in part by United Way of Morris County.
Some new services were also introduced at the open house, including caregiver respite for people who could not otherwise afford it, in-home health assessments from an advanced practice nurse who make sure medications are compatible and link seniors to whatever healthcare resources are needed, as well as a day program designed just for seniors.
At the event, Robert L. Parker, Executive Director of NewBridge, presented United Way of Morris County with a Senior Service Award, recognizing United Way for its support and commitment to helping seniors live independently.
