Lexis GroupIs This Your Year? 2006
January 3, 2006

January is that universal time when we often consider making changes – both large and small – to the way we live our lives.  We may resolve to exercise more, to drop some bad habits, to finally organize the garage.

Each year, some are motivated just enough to break out of their routines to try something new.

And end up loving it.

Why not you?

When you give of your time, your talent, or your treasure (or all three!) we can almost guarantee that, along the way, you will get back more than you ever imagined.

You could give a little more, meet a kid, mentor a single mother, join a committee, share ideas, share some coffee, open your wallet, have a place to go, make a new friend, solve a problem, learn a new skill, pass along your experience, go to bed pleased, wake up enthusiastic, brag a little.

So, come on board!

Here are just a few ideas at United Way of Morris County that can help make 2006 GREAT.

  1. Be a Mentor!

January is National Mentoring Month, and why not celebrate it by deciding that this is the year to spend an hour or two a week with a teen who needs a friend, or an adult who needs support.  We will train you!  Mentors have a profound and positive impact on the people they mentor.  Our mentors say it’s the most rewarding thing they do!

  2. Consider increasing your United Way pledge this year, perhaps becoming a Leadership Giver,

  3. Volunteer on a United Way Action Team, and see how your support creates real change.

  4. Volunteer with our Youth Leadership Committee, and help develop the next generation of leaders!

  5. Join the Women's Leadership Council, and spend some time with a dynamic group of community minded women.  There are some GREAT networking events to attend!  (We had Dr. Sally Ride speak last year!)

  6. Honor a loved one.  Give a gift in honor of or in memory of someone special. We recognize these gifts in our newsletters and on our website.

  7. Support the Commercial Real Estate Committee, which plans an annual event that brings professionals from the industry together to raise funds for capital improvement projects.

  8. Organize a Day of Caring for 5 to 50 of your closest friends or co-workers! You will help with hands-on projects such as simple repairs, landscaping, spring cleaning, painting, hosting onsite parties, or interacting with children and the elderly.

  9. Plan on Playing Golf at Trump National this July.  You will help us raise critical funds AND be pampered at the same time!

  10. Join the Caregivers Coalition, if the issues facing unpaid family caregivers touch you.  You will find support and resources with this group.

  11. Help us tackle the issue of affordable housing.  The Housing Alliance can use your help!

  12. Help us get the word out about the Earned Income Tax Credit.  Each year, thousands of low-income workers in Morris County miss out on millions of dollars by not claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit on their tax returns.  Help us make sure our residents claim and keep the tax benefits they are entitled to this year.
