Frequently asked Questions Regarding Hurricane Response and Recovery

How can I contribute to help those who are suffering?
Visit  www.unitedway.org.  Here, you can contribute via the internet by clicking on "Hurricane Response Efforts."  You can also donate American Airlines® AAdvantage Miles to Displaced Families and Individuals.  In addition, you can find our more information about donating supplies and other goods.

What is United Way of America's Tax ID#?  I need it for my company to give a donation.
The Federal Tax ID # is 13-1635294.

How will my contribution be used?
All funds will be allocated for both front-line disaster relief and long-term recovery needs as determined by local United Ways in affected areas, in coordination with a vast network of human services agencies and volunteer centers.

How much of my donation will go to administrative costs?
There is no administrative fee for individual donations.  Costs to administer the fund are being covered by corporate gifts and local United Ways.

I am interested in donating clothes, furniture…
There are many reasons for organizations to only be collecting monetary donations at this time.  While collecting supplies seems as if it would be the most effective method of fulfilling people's needs, it is not. Doing so will only take away valuable resources from current recovery operations.  Most organizations are in need of cash donations to help in the rebuilding of local communities.

If you decide to donate goods and supplies:

  1. Make sure the organization organizing the collection already has a method of transportation
for the goods to get to the disaster site.
  2. Make sure that there is an identified organization ready to receive the items.

Some organizations that are collecting items are:
