United Way Partnership Honored by Head Start
April 27, 2007
At its annual Volunteer Recognition Event on April 27, Head Start Community Program of Morris County, a longtime United Way partner, recognized the many organizations and individuals that help Head Start serve hundreds of children and families across Morris County. United Way is honored to be among those recognized by Head Start this year.
Head Start acknowledged fellow member agency Homeless Solutions and United Way of Morris County for a partnership that brought about a new playground for the children at the organization's Morristown location. The playground was funded by a grant from United Way's Commercial Real Estate Legacy Luncheon, which raises funds for capital improvement projects at United Way member agencies. Since 2000, the Network has raised over $1 million for capital improvement projects in Morris County.
Head Start also presented Ed Rochford, Morris County Sheriff, with the first-ever Anthony Bucco Award for volunteer of the year. Skylands at Randolph, which hosts Head Start's holiday party each year, was named organization of the year. Special recognition was also given to Habitat for Humanity, West Morris Central High School, Tim Luby, Roman Media Group, Luz Mirian Sanchez and Seymour Zandell.
A special highlight of the event was a keynote address from Juan Felipe Gallo, a graduate of the Head Start program, who spoke of the value of Head Start. Gallo, now a senior at Morris Hills High School, will attend the University of Maryland this fall to study animal science and biology. He credits much of his success to his early beginnings with the program.
United Way of Morris County applauds Head Start for its continued commitment to early childhood development and health, and its focus on family and community partnerships.
