Bayer Day of Caring Brightens Things Up

July 31, 2006

One ladder, a few hard-working volunteers, a can of primer, and a fresh coat of paint made a world of difference for our member agency United Cerebral Palsy of Northern, Central & Southern New Jersey in Chester, N.J. recently.  On Friday, July 21, 2006, Francys Cocco, Leigh Peter, Patrick Parker, Karen Glodde, and Julie Buchan from Bayer HealthCare's Consumer Care Division spent the day painting the large conference room at United Cerebral Palsy, a United Way member agency that strives to advance the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of people with disabilities.

The project was a United Way of Morris County Day of Caring event, which give local employees and residents the opportunity to volunteer as a group to help United Way and its partners across Morris County.  Day of Caring events are vitally important to United Way and its member agencies, which rely heavily on volunteers to help them accomplish their community service work.

Bayer Consumer Care's Day of Caring project brought a new friendliness and brightness to United Cerebral Palsy's meeting room.  The white, scuffed walls were primed and then painted a beautiful yellow by the volunteers.  As this room is frequently used for long training sessions, the facelift will make a big difference in keeping morale high during long meetings.

United Way Day of Caring events are also a good team-building exercise for those who participate.  Julie Buchan, an employee of Bayer Consumer Care and volunteer at the recent Day of Caring event, said, "Overall, I found the day to be a very positive experience.  We worked really well as a team and it was a great opportunity to help a local agency in need.  It was a win-win - as someone who is new to Bayer, I had the chance to meet and spend time with people outside of my department, and it was for a great cause."

Many thanks to Karen Glodde for coordinating this day of caring on behalf of Bayer Consumer Care!
