It's Tax Time
January 31, 2006
From the Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families to tax credits available for volunteers, United Way is here to help.
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
You or someone you know could be missing out on millions. Each year, thousands of low-income workers in Morris County miss out on millions of dollars by not claiming the EITC on their tax returns.
United Way urges community members to dial 2-1-1 to find out more about EITC. Multilingual Help Line Specialists help callers find out whether they can qualify for EITC benefits and tell them where to go for free tax preparation assistance from highly trained volunteers operating at dozens of sites around Northern New Jersey.
If you are not eligible for the tax credit, you can still be involved in the EITC campaign. Help us make sure our residents claim and keep the tax benefits they are entitled to this year and offer your talents and service by becoming a volunteer tax preparer. No experience is necessary and the IRS provides free training. Volunteers help people with basic tax returns and can also assist with intake, quality review, and site management. To become a volunteer tax preparer, please contact NORWESCAP at 973.989.5773.
