United Way of Morris County Celebrates New Brand
Thursday October 2, 2008
Nearly 200 community members gathered at Knoll Country Club in Parsippany on Thursday, October 2, 2008 to help United Way of Morris County launch its new inspirational message of hope for a better tomorrow – LIVE UNITED. Taking the place of this year's annual meeting, the LIVE UNITED Launch Party & Community Celebration offered an uplifting, fun-filled evening for family and friends.
LIVE UNITED is a call to action. It is a constant reminder that when we as individuals think outside ourselves, we have the power to facilitate change. Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, and when people are healthy.
United Way's goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems in our community. Living United means being a part of the change. It takes everyone working together to create a brighter future.
"Regardless of who you are or where you are from, you don't need me to remind you that these are incredibly difficult times," said John Franklin, CEO at United Way of Morris County. "LIVE UNITED is a reminder that we can affect change. We can inspire hope by our actions. And we can create opportunities for a better tomorrow."
TD Banknorth embraced United Way's new message as a supporting sponsor for the event. "TD Banknorth has always demonstrated a commitment to philanthropy and the greater community," said D. Nicholas Miceli, Central Market President, Commerce Bank, a trade name of TD Bank, N.A. "We are excited to help our friends at United Way of Morris County launch this dynamic new brand."
Guests enjoyed an Hors d'oeuvres dinner reception; interactive LIVE UNITED activities, including a photo gallery of community members modeling their LIVE UNITED t-shirts; an opportunity to meet and greet with key members of the community; and a live Classic Rock band to keep it all cookin'.
Tom Hayes, Director of Consumer & Community Relations, New Jersey Natural Gas surprised the crowd with an unexpected $25,000 contribution from the company to United Way. "New Jersey Natural Gas embodies what it means to LIVE UNITED," said John Franklin. "We thank them for their generous support of our mission to advance the common good. By reaching out a hand to United Way, New Jersey Natural Gas is influencing the condition of our entire community."
LIVE UNITED Awards were presented to a few very passionate community members for their passion to Give, Advocate, and Volunteer on behalf of United Way of Morris County. Barbara Flint, United Way Board Member and Caregivers Coalition Steering Committee member, was honored with the 2008 Gold Award; the George Baldwin Youth Volunteer Award went to Erika Medina and Gabriella Blissett; and the 2008 Community Partnership Award was presented to the Housing Alliance of Morris County.
The Kellogg Award, United Way's highest honor, was presented to Cadbury for its vital support of United Way of Morris County. Sharon Prince of Wyeth, recipient of last year's Kellogg Award, presented the award to Tony Murphy, Executive Vice President of Human Resources, Cadbury Americas, who accepted the honor on behalf of Cadbury.
The event culminated with a message from John Franklin, United Way of Morris County CEO, "Thank you for supporting United Way, for advancing the common good, and for helping us LIVE UNITED!"
