Christopher J. Christie's Story
Christopher J. Christie, United States attorney for the district of New Jersey, was the featured speaker at United Way of Morris County's Commercial Real Estate Network Luncheon on March 23rd. His talk was both provocative and engaging.
Speaking on the subject of political corruption, he challenged the audience to get involved. "You have enormous power to execute for the good by holding elected officials accountable to be honest and to have integrity. They not only steal money, they steal our hope, they steal our faith and they make us cynical. Americans are hopeful people and together we can stop them."
Christie also recommended limiting politicians' terms, as a way to stem the tide of the "epidemic political corruption." He feels that those who have served in public office too long forget that they are "serving" and begin to think they are entitled.
Christie was nominated by President George W. Bush to be United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey on December 7, 2001. He will serve a four-year term as the chief federal law enforcement officer in the State of New Jersey. His office is charged with the enforcement of federal civil and criminal laws in the District.
Chris began his legal career in 1987 when he joined the law firm of Dughi, Hewit & Palatucci in Cranford, New Jersey. In 1993, he was named a Partner in the firm. From 1995 to 1997, Chris served as a Morris County Freeholder and he was elected Director of the Board in 1997.
In 2004, Chris was named one of America's top ten prosecutors by the Corporate Crime Reporter. He has served on a number of charitable boards, including Daytop Village – NJ, Family Services of Morris County and the Christie Family Foundation.
After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1984 with a BA degree, Chris attended Seton Hall University School of Law where he graduated in 1987 with a JD degree. Chris has been married to his wife Mary Pat for 18 years and they are the parents of four children. Chris was born and raised in New Jersey and now resides in Mendham, New Jersey with his family. |
