Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Women leaders from across Morris County joined together Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Macculloch Hall for an evening of wine, cheese, and networking at United Way's first Women's Leadership Council reception.  The event was held on the beautiful terrace of Macculloch Hall, underneath blooming wisteria and amidst the museum's stunning spring garden.

United Way of Morris County's WLC Event John & LadyJohn Franklin, CEO of United Way of Morris County, kicked off a brief program, touching on the remarkable power of women.  He recognized United Way board members in attendance: Nancy Eberhardt, Esq., Pro Bono Partnership; Stephanie Hoopes Halpin; and Kira Mendez, Kairos Consulting, and longtime United Way volunteers in attendance, such as Pam Fischer, New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety.  Franklin also noted the influential work of his predecessor, former United Way of Morris County CEO Nancy McDaniel.

Amanda Boyadjis, Women's Leadership Council manager at United Way, shared an overview of the newly formed Council.  Boyadjis noted that Women's Leadership Council is a national United Way program and movement and one of the fastest growing women's programs in the country; over 130 Councils have formed across the country that engage more than 32,000 women collectively.  Over $75 million was raised by Women's Leadership Councils in 2006 alone.  Boyadjis also thanked and recognized members of the Women's Leadership Council steering committee, Nina McCormack, NewBridge Services and Tracy Silver.

United Way of Morris County's WLC Event 3 ladiesNancy Eberhardt, Esq., executive director of Pro Bono Partnership and volunteer chair of United Way's Kids on Track Action Team, shared an update on United Way's Youth Empowerment Initiative.  She shared that the Initiative helps middle school students develop problem solving skills, leadership skills, and better communication skills through a variety of projects, including professionally led focus groups and the Game of Life, which is an interactive exercise that arms students with the knowledge of community services available to them when they need help.  Eberhardt thanked the Women's Leadership Council for its attention to the middle school age group, and shared the significant impact that just one Women's Leadership Council gift can make.
