Seminar: Helping Immigrant Families Make Progress Towards Greater Independence
Thursday, November 17, 2005
United Way is committed to helping families and individuals make progress towards greater independence; providing services to help transition immigrants into their new community is among United Way's community impact goals.
United Way of Morris County, in cooperation with the Morris County Department of Human Services and other local organizations, hosted a special seminar for service providers on Thursday, November 17, 2005 from 8:30am to 2:00pm at the Firefighters and Police Training Academy. Approximately 75 representatives from various agencies, organizations, schools, and health care facilities attended the seminar.
Ed Facas, Assistant Director, Morris County Department of Human Services, served as the moderator for the event’s panel presentation. Panelists included: David Walker, Morristown Neighborhood House; Philippe Weisz, American Friends Service Committee; Dr. Partha Banerjee, New Jersey Immigration Policy Network; Julia Popovitch, Morris County Office of Temporary Assistance; Sue Cardona, Morris School District, and Oscar Vega, Morristown Memorial Hospital – Charity Care. Each panelist shared information, resources, and perspectives regarding immigrant issues in Morris County.
The seminar concluded with a forum discussion, facilitated by United Way volunteer Richard Sleece. An information exchange was also a component of the program.
