Front Line Fund

Military families are strong, but the stresses that arise when a family member is called upon to serve can be great.

Morris County's greatest number of Army and New Jersey National Guard troops was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008. The families of these Soldiers do their part every day by standing strong and maintaining the homefront. However, the absence of their soldier can make everyday challenges faced by all families even more difficult. Our local military families can really struggle as they manage the responsibilities of keeping their household running while coping with the emotional difficulties that accompany a deployment.

Project Front Line MorrisUnited Way is here to help! United Way of Morris County is working closely with a network of health and human service partners and military entities in our area to increase community support for military families who are managing the "homefront" while their loved ones are on the front lines serving their country. This project is called Project Front Line Morris.

As part of Project Front Line Morris, United Way of Morris County and its partners have established the Front Line Fund to serve as a local mechanism to meet the growing needs of our military families.

The Fund is already hard at work, supporting two key resources in Morris County: trained specialists at 2-1-1 call centers in New Jersey and a designated case management professional to provide individual family support. In addition, as we build this fund, resources will be available to meet a wide range of needs as they arise - from counseling services to emergency child care. But we need your help!

As community members, the 98 percent of us not in uniform have an obligation to support the families of the two percent that do. Military families are strong, but their strength depends on the strength of the community; that strength depends on all of us!

"United Way of Morris County has long served as a foundation in the community to ensure that our neighbors have the support and services they need to stay healthy and strong," said John Franklin, CEO at United Way of Morris County. "However, with so many of our neighbors serving as Soldiers on the front lines, we are now called upon to help provide critical, additional support. The challenges these families face do not disappear when their Soldiers return. It is critical that we support these families as they prepare for deployment, while their Soldiers are deployed, and when their Soldiers return."

The Front Line Fund is just one example of United Way of Morris County's pledge to fulfill the Army's Community Covenant, a formal commitment of support by states and local communities to Soldiers and their Families.
