HEALTH Advocacy

HEALTH: Improving People’s Health

HEALTH: Improving People’s Health At United Way of Morris County, our goal is to advance the common good through the promotion of quality EDUCATION, stable INCOME, and good HEALTH for everyone.

Health is such a basic need. It impacts every aspect of a person's daily life. A child with a toothache is unable to concentrate in school and succeed. A family without health insurance is often overwhelmed to the point of bankruptcy by the financial burdens of an illness. Caregivers are undervalued, overburdened, and stressed. Seniors without prescription assistance have to make frightening decisions on which medicines they can afford and which ones they will go without. Every day our friends, neighbors, and colleagues are forced to live with the fear of getting sick or injured, or the strain of being suddenly thrown into the role of caregiver for an ailing relative.

United Way works to ensure everyone has access to affordable and quality health care so they can lead safe, healthy, and rewarding lives. United Way supports local health and human service programs and partners with local advocates, faith leaders, health care professionals, the business community, and policy makers to create sustainable answers to the current health care crisis. Join United Way of Morris County in our efforts to make our community stronger by ensuring families have access to the health care they need to stay healthy and thrive. We provide a voice and advocate for policies that enable families and individuals to attain the best health they can throughout the stages of their lives.

Advocacy starts with being well-informed. Please visit our HEALTH area to learn more about the work we are doing on behalf of our community members.

United Way of America Advocates for Health

As a country, we can make a difference and the time is now. Improving health outcomes for all Americans is a key aspect of United Way's overall goal of advancing the common good.  With rising health costs, declining employer-based health coverage, and increasing numbers of uninsured persons, it is imperative that we develop strategies to address the problems in our health care system.

United Way addresses pressing health and health care issues facing communities across the country. We're working to improve the overall health of our country.

Achieving this goal requires us all to become more aware of health risks and the potential effects they have on ourselves and others, starting from before birth. By working to change policies and practices, such as extending health care coverage, we will enable more people to live healthier lives.

United Way of America is working to support federal, state, and local public policy efforts that serve to advance our work in the area of health. Click here for more information about United Way of America's national efforts to advocate for HEALTH related causes.
